Fall 2016 Stewardship Message

September , 2016

Dear parishioners and friends of St. Paul’s,

As a new “program year” gets under way, we look back with gratitude over everything that has happened since we first welcomed Mother Sara on the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels a year ago.

Soon after Sara began, we agreed on three mutual ministry goal s for our first year together: 1) make children and adult formation more robust across all services, 2) begin a new conversation about outreach to our neighbors experiencing homelessness, and 3) strengthen stewardship. We have much to celebrate in each of these three ministry areas.

This has been a year of discovery for Mother Sara and her priority has been getting to know all of us, through social gatherings and conversations on issues such as outreach, the arts, liturgy, the Daily Office, and adult formation, to name a few. The focus of these gatherings has been to learn about our community while helping us to know each other better.

This year, as we seek to strengthen our stewardship of God’s abundance, we invite each of you, over the next eight weeks, into a process of reflection to consider these two questions:

1. What is my dream for St. Paul’s?

2. What is God’s dream for St. Paul’s?

We will engage these questions in small gatherings hosted by parishioners from mid – September through late October. There will be no pledge cards distributed at these gatherings and no “ask.” Our focus will be on how we believe God is calling us to proclaim God’s reign in our unique context. The conversations we have will shape our programming, our funding priorities and the vestry’s stewardship of resources for the next several years. Even if regular pledging is not currently part of your spiritual practice, we want your voice in these conversations about our dreams for St. Paul’s. On the Feast of All Saints (November 6), we will distribute pledge cards during all services and offer the opportunity to complete your pledge card as an act of worship. If you are not able to attend that day, we will mail you a pledge card the following w eek.

We are grateful to the many people who have offered to host or facilitate the fall gatherings, and we look forward to sharing the stewardship journey with all of you.

Faithfully,
